In Kindergarten, we lay the foundation children need in order to be successful in their future school careers. We meet each child where he or she is academically, physically, socially, spiritually and emotionally using differentiated instruction. The teachers will work regularly in small groups to help meet each student’s needs. It is our goal to use a hands-on approach to learning in which the children are actively involved and having fun. We are thrilled to be able to keep our class size small. The ratio in our Kindergarten classes will be 1:15, or less.  Kindergarten at MKP is Monday-Thursday from 8:30-2:30 each day.

CURRICULUM:
All of the Kindergarten curriculum at Messiah’s Kids Preschool is 100% TEKS based. After completing Kindergarten with us, your child will be more than prepared to continue their academic career at any of the area elementary schools.

READING, LANGUAGE ARTS:
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s, “Into Reading” is a fully integrated phonics, reading, writing and spelling program. This program uses a differentiated approach to individualize instruction in reading and writing. It uses quality literature to captivate the students’ attention and encourage their love of learning. This program gives students the strong foundation they need to excel in reading and language.

HIGH FREQUENCY WORDS:
High frequency words are important to young readers. The more words they know by sight, the more students’ fluency builds. The better a child’s fluency, the better they can comprehend.
 
MATH:
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s, “Go Math” is a comprehensive math program that engages children through hands-on activities, and teaches them to become independent learners, supported by their teacher. They will learn all of the foundational skills to become life–long problem solvers. The students will experience and practice math concepts in multiple ways; whole group, small group, and individually.

SCIENCE:
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s, “Science Fusion” uses a hands-on approach to learning science concepts. Children will learn through direct teacher instruction, guided practice, and independent learning. This comprehensive program covers the areas of life science, earth science, and physical science.

SOCIAL STUDIES:
We integrate the Social Studies TEKS into our reading and writing programs. We also use “Time Magazine for Kids” to reinforce the Social Studies concepts outlined in the TEKS.
